About us

The Community Band of Soresina was founded 15 years ago thanks to the work of M° Daniele Lanzi, who encouraged the most gifted pupils of the school where he taught in playing a wind or percussion instrument, thus being able to form a small wind ensemble. Economically supported by the Municipality of Soresina, the group could afford to buy musical instruments and scores to play. The conductor - Maestro Lanzi - started musical courses during which he taught both wind and percussion instruments. His group reached the number of 35 components, and he managed to make a regular community band out of them. Besides religious and civic services, they were also able to take some concerts.

Up till 2002 the band went through some difficult times, its musicians number dramatically dropped to 13 only, and the group was almost going to split. New life was brought to the ensemble on September 2002, when the conducting was given to M° Giorgio Pandini. The band joined the triennial project of re-qualification supported by the “Coordinamento Bande Musicali della provincia di Cremona” - a musical association gathering bands of all districts in the territory of Cremona. At the same time, the group underwent an important project of renewal: the music school was dramatically revolutionized, various wind and percussion courses were started at different levels, held by professional teachers all graduated at the Music Conservatory. Another musical course was created for small children (4-8 years old), in order to promote musical learning. During 2002 the community band grew up and reached the number of 31 players, new instruments and scores were bought with the aim to refresh the repertoire. The group is now perfectly able to carry out religious and civic services, besides concerts (both indoor and outdoor). Many other activities are regularly organized during the year, with the aim to cover internal costs and expenses; among them there are sponsorships and the selling of membership cards to our supporters. In 2003 the band started the process in order to become an independent association from the Municipality.

In the same year, the group made a trip to Rome along with the bands of Trigolo and S. Bassano, during which they made a concert in Centro Giano, that was filmed by the national TV. But the major event was the subsequent day when all the three bands played in Piazza S. Pietro for Pope John Paul II during the usual Sunday speech. In June 2004 the band finally became an independent association, and the group was entitled to Igino Robbiani, an opera composer of Soresina.

It’s not easy to find a way to devote some time to musical passion among all daily activities of our times, but the joy of playing together (young and old) give us great energy and strength. We feel more and more pushed to make our best and reach future goals, and first of all we would like to become an important musical reality in Soresina.

The repertoire of the Community Band of Soresina embrace all musical genres, we play original concert band works, classical, modern and pop music transcriptions and also film and musical soundtracks arranged for wind band.
